In this interview, Laura Havstad discusses the chapter she contributed to a recent book, Death and Chronic Illness in the Family: Bowen Systems Family Theory Perspectives. The chapter is related to a Programs in Bowen Theory conference on Family Reaction to Death that was held in 2015. Both have strong ties to Murray Bowen’s ideas about family reaction to death, which he called “the emotional shock wave.”
