At our best, Programs in Bowen Theory is about transformations that become possible through understanding the family emotional system. Those who have participated in our programs often report a heightened ability to understand physical, emotional and behavioral symptoms in a way that provides new options for change, in their lives, and in their professional practices.
We are part of a network of national and international programs that promote systems thinking applied to the human condition. Our expanded board is actively striving to make our work and that of the network in Bowen theory increasingly accessible and relevant to our moment in history. We ask for your financial support to sustain and develop our programs in the following ways:
To keep our meetings affordable, Programs in Bowen Theory absorbs some conference costs to keep registration fees affordable for all attendees. Your donation can help us promote knowledge of Bowen Theory through reasonable registration and continuing education fees. Our meeting planned for May 11, 2019 will focus on models and methods of family assessment and evaluation based on Bowen theory which addresses questions of how to think about how a family is doing and how any of one of us is doing in our own family.
Our redesigned website is up and running. It is full of resources for professional practice based in Bowen theory. Our blogs address timely and timeless issues including responsibility for guns in an era of mass shootings and the role of triangles in emotional cutoffs and their resolution. Our current post is about family adjustment to death based on a paper Laura Havstad published this year in Death and Chronic Illness in the Family, an edited collection of papers on death from the perspective of Bowen theory.
To do our part to disseminate Bowen theory, video recordings of past meetings are becoming available on our website for streaming or download as they are processed. Your donation can help sustain and further develop this service. For a donation of $150 or more you will receive access to our streaming recording of our March 2018 meeting on Self Regulation and the Family System!
Our research program on the course of clinical symptoms and outcomes of treatment continues. Last spring the results of our studies were published in a paper on shifts in the family system and weight loss in the journal Family Systems. You can read about the research in the blog post, Weight Loss and Shifts in the Family System. Data collection on the family system and symptom remission and relapse is continuing. A contribution to Programs in Bowen Theory will provide resources to sustain this research. A donation of $3000 will allow research interviews to be transcribed and prepared for data analysis. We rely on your support for our success. Please support us with a generous donation today!
